NBI URGES ZALDY CO, OTHERS TO SURRENDER AMID FLOOD CONTROL WARRANTS

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Saturday called on former Ako Bicol Partylist Representative Zaldy Co and other individuals implicated in the flood control corruption controversy to surrender following issued arrest warrants.

The Sandiganbayan issued warrants on Friday for Co, more than a dozen Sunwest Corp. officials — a company he founded — and several Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) personnel.

NBI Officer-in-Charge Angelito Magno said the subjects should comply “while surrender is still a choice and not a consequence.”

“Sa batas, walang ‘later’-only comply or be compelled. Mas magaan ang proseso kapag kusang loob; mas mabigat kapag hinabol. Face the warrant now. Justice is calling-better to meet it than to run from it,” he added.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) confirmed that the Philippine National Police (PNP) has been instructed to enforce the warrants “properly and in full accordance with the law.”
