NCRPO AIMS TO SHORTEN 2026 TRASLACION TO 10–12 HOURS

The National Capital Regional Police Office (NCRPO) said Sunday it hopes to cut the 2026 Traslacion procession during the Feast of the Jesus Nazareno in Manila to around 10 to 12 hours, compared to last year’s 20-hour march.

Police Major Hazel Asilo, NCRPO-Public Information Office chief, said preparations are focused on peace and security while aiming to shorten the journey of the image from Quirino Grandstand to Quiapo Church.

“‘Yung goal natin na mas mabilis natin maipasok. From 20 hours noong nakaraang taon. Ang goal natin ngayon is kalahatian natin kahit from 10 to 12 hours man lamang,” she explained.

Asilo noted the same security measures will be in place since the route mirrors 2025, but police response will adjust depending on the situation.

“Magdedepende talaga sa sitwasyon kung anong gagawin ng ating mga kapulisan ganoon din ang mga hijos at iba pa nating kasama kung paano natin mas mabilis na mapapaaandar at maipasok ng simbahan ang andas,” she said.

Around 15,000 police officers will be deployed, with regular walkthroughs already conducted. NCRPO said no threats have been received but the force remains on heightened alert ahead of the January 9 procession.
