Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero has drawn mixed reactions online after publicly disclosing his Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN) amounting to ₱18.84 million.
Many netizens expressed skepticism, claiming the declared amount seems inconsistent with the couple’s visible lifestyle on social media — particularly referencing luxury items associated with Escudero’s wife, Heart Evangelista.
Among the items frequently mentioned in online discussions were designer handbags, jewelry, art collections, and the alleged ₱56-million Paraiba ring, which fans have linked to Evangelista.
Some commenters remarked that Escudero’s declared wealth appeared “far” from the opulent lifestyle seen online, sparking conversations about transparency and credibility among public officials.
As of now, Escudero has yet to issue a statement addressing the public’s reactions.
Meanwhile, Cavite 4th District Representative Kiko Barzaga also shared his thoughts on the issue.
“No matter what your political color is, we all know that Senator Escudero is not the poorest Senator. Declarations like his SALN destroy the people’s trust in the government,” Barzaga said.
