NGCP CONFIDENT POWER SUPPLY WILL REMAIN STABLE THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) expressed confidence Wednesday that the country’s power system will remain stable for the rest of December amid the holiday season.

“For the rest of the year, wala tayong nakikita na magiging problema sa supply ng kuryente,” NGCP spokesperson Cynthia Alabanza said at a press conference in San Juan City.

Alabanza noted that “unforeseen circumstances” such as typhoons or unplanned power plant outages could still disrupt supply.

“Pero kung walang ibang mangyayari wala tayong nakikitang magiging problema,” she added.

When asked about the likelihood of a red or yellow alert being issued for the remainder of 2025, Alabanza said, “Yes,” indicating low chances.

She explained that a red alert occurs when power supply cannot meet consumer demand and the grid’s contingency requirement, while a yellow alert signals insufficient operating margin to cover contingency reserves.

Regarding 2026, Alabanza said it is too early to predict since ‘we still have a long way to go and the only basis for our data is an educated guess.’ She encouraged consumers to use electricity responsibly.
