OMBUDSMAN AWAITS ZALDY CO’S RESPONSE ON ₱289.5-M FLOOD CONTROL PROJECT CASE

Former Ako-Bicol Partylist Representative Zaldy Co has yet to respond to allegations linking him to the alleged irregular ₱289.5-million flood control project in Oriental Mindoro, according to Assistant Ombudsman Mico Clavano.

Clavano referred to the complaint filed by the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI), which urged the Office of the Ombudsman to file charges of graft, malversation, and falsification against Co and several officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

The allegations stem from a flood control and road dike project located along the Mag-Asawang Tubig River in Naujan, Oriental Mindoro.

Clavano noted that while Co is currently abroad, he can still submit his sworn counter-affidavit through any Philippine embassy.

He emphasized that the Ombudsman will not extend its waiting period indefinitely.

“If Co fails to file his counter-affidavit, the Ombudsman will proceed to resolve the complaint without his defense,” Clavano said.

Co resigned from his position as lawmaker in September, following mounting allegations of his involvement in the controversial flood control project.

He has repeatedly denied the accusations and vowed to address them “in the proper forum.”
