OMBUDSMAN ORDERS HOUSE TO SUBMIT SALNs OF FORMER OFFICIAL

Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla has issued a subpoena compelling the House of Representatives to turn over all Statements of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALNs) of former deputy secretary general Sofonias Gabonada Jr.

The directive, released Tuesday, instructs House Secretary General Cheloy Garafil to provide copies of Gabonada’s SALNs covering his entire tenure. The order is part of what the Ombudsman described as a “thorough investigation into the alleged irregularities concerning certain infrastructure projects.”

In the subpoena duces tecum, the Ombudsman’s office explained that the documents are being sought “to assess whether there has been any undeclared accumulation of wealth or financial anomalies that may indicate misconduct.”

The House has been given three days from receipt of the order to comply.

Garafil, in response, assured cooperation while emphasizing adherence to institutional protocols.

“Wala po kaming intensyong magpakita ng kawalang-galang o umiwas sa pagtugon. Ang lahat ng opisyal na komunikasyon ay aming aasikasuhin nang naaayon sa mga tuntunin at may buong paggalang sa institusyon,” she said.
