OMBUDSMAN TO COMPLETE FLOOD CONTROL PROBE WITHIN 60 DAYS — REMULLA

The Office of the Ombudsman is set to complete its preliminary investigation (PI) into the alleged irregularities involving several flood control projects within 60 days, according to Ombudsman Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla.

Remulla announced on Tuesday that while such investigations typically take up to a year under standard procedures, his office intends to expedite the process to ensure accountability and swift resolution.

He explained that not all cases require a fact-finding phase, allowing the Ombudsman to move directly to the PI in certain instances.

According to Remulla, the probe covers six flood control projects — five in Bulacan and one in Oriental Mindoro.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) submitted its investigation report on the Bulacan projects to the Ombudsman on October 14, while the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) turned over its findings on the Oriental Mindoro case last month.

Remulla added that the Ombudsman expects to begin filing cases before the Sandiganbayan related to the controversial flood control projects by November.
