OMBUDSMAN VOWS JUSTICE FOR TYPHOON TINO VICTIMS

The Office of the Ombudsman assured the public on Friday, November 7, that justice will be delivered for those affected by Typhoon Tino, especially victims of alleged mismanaged flood control projects.

In an official statement, the agency expressed condolences to families who lost loved ones during the typhoon.

“The Office of the Ombudsman stands in mourning with the nation for the lives lost in the devastation caused by Typhoon Tino,” it said.

The Ombudsman also affirmed that it has listened to public calls for accountability over flood control projects that reportedly failed to prevent flooding.

“To the families of all victims of the calamity—we hear you, and we have acted,” the statement added.

A special task force previously assigned to investigate flood control projects has now been instructed to prioritize those meant to mitigate the impact of Typhoon Tino, the agency said.

“Justice will be pursued with compassion, diligence, and resolve,” the Ombudsman stressed.

The statement comes amid demonstrations outside the Ombudsman’s office, where protesters clashed slightly with police. The demonstrators carried banners demanding accountability from officials allegedly responsible for corruption and anomalies in flood control projects that endangered lives.
