OVER 225,000 INDIVIDUALS AFFECTED BY SEVERE TROPICAL STORM PAOLO — NDRRMC

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that Severe Tropical Storm Paolo has affected more than 225,000 individuals across several regions in Luzon, leaving behind widespread flooding, damaged roads, and disrupted power and transport services.

In its latest situational update released Sunday, the NDRRMC said a total of 70,575 families, equivalent to 225,557 people, were impacted by the storm’s onslaught. Of these, 3,940 families (11,964 individuals) are currently staying in 284 evacuation centers, while another 2,997 families (8,585 individuals) are being assisted outside evacuation facilities.

Despite the storm’s strong winds and heavy rains, the agency confirmed that no fatalities, injuries, or missing persons have been reported.

Paolo triggered heavy flooding across Region I (Ilocos Region), Region III (Central Luzon), and Region IV-A (CALABARZON), with 23 areas in Region I still underwater as of Sunday.

The NDRRMC added that 98 road sections and 34 bridges were affected nationwide, with 27 roads and 32 bridges remaining impassable due to flooding, landslides, or debris.

Power interruptions were also recorded in 53 cities and municipalities, though 23 areas have since had their electricity restored.

Sea travel was similarly disrupted, with 16 ports reporting canceled trips. As of Sunday morning, 2 ports had resumed operations, while 176 passengers, 37 rolling cargoes, 32 vessels, and 7 motor bancas remained stranded.

In the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), the storm damaged 13 houses, according to the agency’s report.

Government assistance worth ₱389,566.10 has been allocated for 829 affected families, with 550 families already receiving aid.

Paolo developed into a tropical depression on October 1, intensified into a typhoon by October 3, and weakened into a severe tropical storm later that day before leaving the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on October 4.

Authorities continue to monitor flooding in several provinces as clearing operations and relief distribution efforts are carried out across affected communities.
