OVER 33,000 MERALCO CUSTOMERS LOSE POWER AMID SUPER TYPHOON UWAN

Around 33,000 customers of the Manila Electric Railroad and Light Company (Meralco) lost electricity as Super Typhoon Uwan battered parts of Metro Manila, according to Meralco spokesperson Joe Zaldarriaga.

In an interview with True FM on Monday, November 10, Zaldarriaga confirmed widespread outages in several cities.

“Marami dito sa Metro Manila,” he said.

“Dito sa Navotas, apparently mga 24,000 customers. Nira-round off ko na lang.”

He added that power interruptions were also recorded in Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Caloocan, Las Piñas, Quezon City, Malabon, Taguig, and Parañaque.

“Muntinlupa were down to 3,700, Valenzuela 2,900, Caloocan 2,866, tapos mayroong ilan sa Las Piñas, Quezon City, and a few others in Malabon, Taguig, and Parañaque. Karamihan [ay] wire down at saka transformer trouble,” Zaldarriaga explained.

Despite the outages, he assured that Meralco has enough capacity to restore power: “We have more than adequate capacity.”

However, Zaldarriaga noted that restoration efforts may take time due to ongoing clearing operations.

“Ang problema natin ngayon, mas matagal kapag mapping up operations kasi iisa-isahin mo na ‘yan, e,” he said, adding that areas with damaged wires, transformers, or fallen poles may experience longer delays.

He said Meralco aims to fully restore electricity in affected areas within two days or more.
