PAGCOR ORDERS REMOVAL OF GAMBLING BILLBOARDS AND ADS AMID CALLS FOR TIGHTER REGULATION

The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) has ordered the immediate removal of billboards and out-of-home (OOH) advertisements promoting gambling, as part of its efforts to regulate gambling-related operations across the country.

The directive follows growing public concern from sectors such as the Catholic Church and several lawmakers, including Senators Migz Zubiri and Win Gatchalian and Manila 6th District Representative Benny Abante, who are advocating for a total ban on online gambling in the Philippines.

Critics argue that the proliferation of gambling harms family finances and relationships.

In a memorandum released by PAGCOR, the agency instructed all licensees, suppliers, system administrators, and gaming venue operators to take down gambling ad materials, including those displayed on public transportation such as trains, buses, jeeps, and taxis.

PAGCOR also aims to limit the broadcast of gambling-related ads on free TV networks like GMA-7, TV5, and ABS-CBN’s platforms, as well as across social media.

The move is intended to reduce exposure to gambling and help curb addictive behaviors among Filipinos.

This crackdown signals a shift toward stricter oversight amid increased scrutiny of gambling’s social impact in the country.
