Malacañang has downplayed the decline in President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s trust rating in the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey, saying the Chief Executive remains focused on governance rather than numbers.
According to the report, Marcos’ trust rating dropped to 43% in September from 48% in June — a 5-point decrease.
In a statement, Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the Palace is not alarmed by the dip, noting that the President continues to prioritize efforts to fight corruption and improve the quality of life for Filipinos amid recent calamities.
“Hindi man niya alintana ang numero sa mga survey, ikinalulugod niya na nararamdaman ng mga kababayan natin na ang Pangulo at ang gobyerno ay nandiyan para sa kanila,” said Castro.
She also pointed out that President Marcos himself initiated the investigation into the alleged anomalies in flood control projects, a move that underscores his administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
Meanwhile, the same survey showed that 50% of respondents believe former President Rodrigo Duterte should be held accountable for the deaths linked to his war on drugs, while 32% disagreed, 15% were undecided, and 4% gave no answer.
Support for Duterte’s accountability was highest in the Visayas (54%), followed by Metro Manila (53%), Balance Luzon (52%), and Mindanao (39%).
