Malacañang on Tuesday confirmed it has “no plans, for now” to take legal action against Senator Imee Marcos over her claim that President Bongbong Marcos and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos were using illegal drugs.
Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro said the administration is monitoring the situation but left open the possibility of legal or institutional action.
“Let us check first all the facts and the statements that she made. It’s up to the DOJ or maybe the Ombudsman if they will make any initiative to end this matter,” she said.
Senator Imee made the allegations during Monday night’s Iglesia ni Cristo rally at the Quirino Grandstand, reviving long-circulating rumors about the President.
Castro emphasized a cautious approach: “Let’s just wait and see. As of now, we do not have any plan of making any legal action against her.”
The public clash comes amid ongoing corruption investigations targeting entrenched political allies of the administration.
