Malacañang has questioned why Senator Imee Marcos is only now raising her voice against corruption following the Independent Commission for Infrastructure’s (ICI) accomplishment report on the flood control scam.
The senator earlier expressed outrage and demanded that the full ICI report be made public, alleging possible cover-ups in the investigation.
Marcos even quipped that the public had been duped:
“Nag-April Fools na, nahudas pa dahil hindi isinapubliko ang report ng ICI.”
Communications Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro countered the senator’s remarks, pointing out that ghost projects had already been reported as early as 2020 under the previous administration, yet no broad investigation was pursued.
“Sino ba ang nanghudas? Sino ba ang nanloko? Ang tanong natin, nag-iingay ba sila? Ibabalik natin sa kanila iyan, ang ghost projects as early as 2020 na walang nangyaring malawakang pag-imbestiga,” Castro said.
She added that Marcos’ sudden interest in the ICI report comes only now, during her brother’s administration, despite the report already being submitted to the Ombudsman and the Department of Justice.
According to Castro, it is now up to the two agencies to decide whether to release the full ICI report and accomplishment findings on the flood control projects.
