PALACE REACTS TO IMPEACHMENT COMPLAINTS VS MARCOS

Malacañang said it respects the process after the House Committee on Justice declared the two impeachment complaints against President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. as “sufficient in form.”

Communications Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the Palace is leaving the matter to the proper constitutional process.

“That’s the process. We have to respect that,” Castro said during a press briefing on Monday, February 2.

She stressed that President Marcos remains confident, maintaining that he has committed no wrongdoing.

“Even before sinabi na po ng Pangulo na alam niya na wala siyang ginawang mali, wala siyang giinawang paglabag sa batas, at wala siyang ginawang impeachable offense. Kaya kumpiyansa siya sa sarili niya,” Castro added.

The first impeachment complaint against Marcos was filed on January 19, led by lawyer Andre de Jesus and endorsed by Pusong Pinoy Party-list Representative Jett Nisay.

A second impeachment complaint was later filed by the Makabayan Bloc after two earlier attempts to submit their documents were unsuccessful.

This marked the second time the Makabayan Bloc filed an impeachment complaint against the President after their earlier submission was not officially accepted by the House Secretary General on January 22.

On Monday, February 2, the House Committee on Justice formally ruled that both impeachment complaints were “sufficient in form,” allowing the process to move forward.
