PALACE SAYS CHINA AWARE MARCOS ADMIN PUSHES DIPLOMACY

Malacañang said China is aware that the administration of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. prefers diplomacy as the primary approach in addressing issues between the two countries.

During a press briefing on Monday, February 2, Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said Beijing already knows the Philippine government’s position.

She added that this stance has likely been felt by China, making heightened tensions unnecessary.

Castro also addressed reports of heated exchanges and a “word war” between Chinese officials and some Philippine lawmakers, including calls to declare Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Jing Quan as persona non grata.

However, she reiterated that the President’s policy, along with that of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), remains anchored on dialogue.

In the same briefing, Castro clarified that the meeting between First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and Ambassador Jing Quan was unrelated to diplomatic policy.
