PALACE STAYS OUT OF SENATE LEADERSHIP ISSUE

Malacañang has made it clear that it will not interfere in the internal affairs of the Senate, amid reports of an alleged move to change its leadership.

Communications Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro emphasized that the Senate is a separate and independent branch of government, saying there is no reason for the executive branch to intervene or comment on matters within the chamber.

“Sabi nga po natin, ayaw ng executive overreach. So kung ano ang mangyayari sa Senado, desisyon po nila ‘yan,” Castro said.

Earlier reports claimed there were efforts to replace Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, with Senator Loren Legarda reportedly being floated as a possible successor, particularly by members of the minority bloc.

Meanwhile, Castro also said President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has yet to see the alleged draft report circulating from the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee regarding the ongoing investigation into alleged anomalies in government flood control projects.
