Malacañang on Tuesday said it will not intervene in the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) ruling declaring former President Rodrigo Duterte fit to face pretrial proceedings, stressing the matter is entirely under the court’s jurisdiction.
Communications Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro emphasized that the decision was made independently by the ICC.
“Ang nagpasya po niyan ay ang Pretrial Chamber 1 ng ICC,” she said.
Castro underscored that the Marcos administration has no intention of interfering in the ICC’s judicial processes.
“Kung ganiyang po ang kanilang proseso hindi po makikialam ang Pangulo at hindi po makikialam ang pamahalaan ng Pilipinas,” she added.
Duterte, currently detained in The Hague, faces charges of crimes against humanity linked to killings during his war on drugs, which began in Davao City and intensified during his presidency from 2016 to 2022.
The Palace’s stance reinforced its long-standing policy of non-interference, as the ICC case against Duterte continues independently of Philippine authorities.
