PANGILINAN REPLACES PADILLA AS SENATE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS CHAIR

Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan is now officially the chairperson of the Senate Committee on Constitutional Amendments and Revision of Codes, succeeding Senator Robin Padilla.

The powerful committee handles proposals to amend the Constitution and revise existing legal codes.

Pangilinan’s election took place during the Senate plenary session on Tuesday, August 12, after Senate Deputy Majority Leader JV Ejercito moved for his appointment.

“I move that we elect Sen. Francis ‘Kiko’ Pangilinan as chairperson of the Committee on Constitutional Amendments and Revision of Codes, vice Sen. Robinhood Padilla,” Ejercito declared.

The motion was unopposed and approved by Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada.

Padilla, who first chaired the committee in the 19th Congress and retained the post in the 20th, was known for pushing a Constitutional Convention to amend the 1987 Constitution — a proposal that ultimately stalled.
