Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III clarified that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. supports the creation of the Independent People’s Commission (IPC), amid reports suggesting the President was hesitant.
Sotto said the confusion arose from a misunderstanding of statements made by Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro.
He explained that he and fellow senators presented the IPC proposal during a Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC) meeting with Marcos.
“Prinesent namin ‘yun, agree siya,” Sotto said in an interview.
Sotto added that Castro herself clarified that her earlier statements were edited, changing their meaning.
“Nireklamo niya, taken out of context daw siya ng media. Sabi niya hindi daw ganoon ang sinasabi ng Presidente,” he said.
“As a matter of fact, sinama nga sa legislative agenda ngayon,” Sotto added, confirming the IPC is now part of the administration’s legislative priorities.
