President Bongbong Marcos has responded to the drug-related accusations made by his sister, Senator Imee Marcos, during the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) anti-corruption rally held on November 17.
In a press conference on Monday, November 24—a week after the incident—the President was asked by a member of the media how he felt about the allegations that he and his family were using illegal drugs, and how he intended to explain the matter to the public.
PBBM said he preferred not to bring “family matters” into the public sphere.
“I do not like, we do not like to show our dirty linen in public. But so, I’ll just say this much. For a while now, we’ve been very worried about my sister. When I say we, I’m talking about friends and family,” he said.
He added that the public persona seen on television does not resemble the sister he knows.
“And the reason that is because the lady that you see talking on TV is not my sister. And that view is shared by cousins, our friends, hindi siya ‘yan… anong… hindi siya ‘yan, so that’s why we worry. We are very worried about that. I hope she [gets]… I hope she feels better soon,” Marcos continued.
When asked whether the siblings had spoken since the senator hurled the accusations, the President replied: “We don’t really… we no longer travel in the same circles, political or otherwise, so no.”
Shortly after the President’s remarks, Senator Imee Marcos responded through a Facebook post.
“Bongbong, ako ‘to, kung anu-ano na nakikita mo ading. Patunayan mong mali ako – gusto kong mali ako,” she wrote.
