President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., together with his family, returned to Ilocos Norte—long regarded as the Marcos family’s political stronghold—on Sunday, September 28, to commemorate the 36th death anniversary of his late father, the dictator and former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr.

Marcos attended a mass at the Immaculate Conception of Parish in Batac, Ilocos Norte, accompanied by his children, his cousin Ilocos Norte Governor Cecilia Araneta-Marcos, and well-known loyalists of the Marcos family.
In a Facebook post, the President recalled the memory of his father, writing:
“Remembering my father, Apo Lakay, on his 36th death anniversary. His memory and his dreams remain with me always.”
The elder Marcos died at the age of 72 on September 28, 1989, in Honolulu, Hawaii, due to cardiovascular disease linked to lupus.
He passed away in exile three years after being ousted from power by the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution, which ended his more than two-decade rule marred by abuse of power and corruption.
