PBBM STRESSES DUE PROCESS IN HOLDING OFFICIALS ACCOUNTABLE

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. underscored the importance of due process and adherence to the law in pursuing accountability over the alleged irregularities in the government’s flood control projects.

In a teaser for the PBBM Podcast released on Sunday, October 5, Marcos warned against rushing the investigation and prosecution of those involved in corruption without sufficient evidence.

“Look, anong mangyayari? Minadali natin, hindi kumpleto ang ebidensiya natin, malabo ang ebidensiya natin, pero pinilit natin. Natalo ‘yong kaso. Can you imagine? I think that will be much, much, much worse,” the President said.

He stressed that the government must ensure all legal procedures are properly observed to maintain legitimacy and credibility.
“We have to follow the law; otherwise, whatever we do is not legitimate. And we have to be very, very clear that we go after the guilty ones,” Marcos added.

Earlier, Malacañang emphasized that investigations into corruption allegations must go through the proper process and not be carried out hastily.

“Ang pag-iimbestiga po ay hindi po kailangang isang araw lang. Hindi po naniniwala ang Pangulo sa isang EJK style, walang imbestigahan, [at] libingan ang hantungan. Ang gusto ng Pangulo, due process. At hindi po lamang na puro salita or kaya pangako,” said Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Claire Castro.

The President’s remarks came amid mounting public and political pressure to hold accountable those allegedly involved in the massive flood control fund anomalies—an issue currently being investigated by the Senate and independent commissions.

Marcos reiterated that while the government is committed to fighting corruption, justice must be done through proper legal channels and not through shortcuts that could compromise the integrity of the case.
