President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will spend part of the Holy Week break in his home province of Ilocos Norte, taking a short pause during the long holiday before returning to Manila over the weekend.
Speaking to reporters in Nueva Ecija, the President confirmed that he plans to stay in Ilocos Norte for several days in observance of the Lenten season, a significant religious period in the predominantly Catholic Philippines.
“I will spend a few days in Ilocos Norte and I will be back in Manila by the weekend,” the President said.
Ilocos Norte, the Marcos family’s political stronghold, has long served as the President’s retreat during major holidays, where he usually spends private time with family.
This year’s Holy Week offers Filipinos an extended break, with Maundy Thursday and Good Friday declared regular holidays, followed by Black Saturday as a special non-working day. The long weekend traditionally leads to a surge in travel as families return to their provinces or take time for rest and reflection.
Holy Week commemorates the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Across the country, Filipinos mark the occasion through church services, processions, and personal rituals, while others use the time for family gatherings or short vacations.
Malacañang has yet to release details of any official engagements for the President during the holiday period.
