As Catholics observed Good Friday, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. called on the faithful to live with “greater faith, humility, and compassion” in commemoration of the day.
In a message posted on social media, Marcos joined Christians worldwide in reflecting on the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ at Calvary.
“Today, we stand before the Cross. In silence, in reflection, in gratitude,” he said.
“For in it, we see a love that did not turn away from suffering, but chose to embrace it for each one of us. May this day call us to live with greater faith, humility and compassion,” the President added.
Good Friday commemorates the suffering and sacrifice of Jesus for humanity’s sins.
The term “Good” is rooted in the belief that Christ’s death brought salvation and redemption, making it one of the most solemn observances in the Christian calendar.
