PCCI WARNS OF WASTE WITHOUT BUDGET TRANSPARENCY

The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) welcomed the passage of the ₱6.793-trillion 2026 General Appropriations Act but cautioned that billions could be wasted without transparency and private-sector engagement.

“We welcome the passage of the 2026 GAA and we hope that the taxpayers’ money will be judiciously spent and utilized in ways that benefit all Filipinos. It should drive inclusive growth and economic progress across the country,” PCCI President Perry Ferrer said.

Ferrer underscored the proposed CADENA Act as vital to making every peso traceable.

“It is not enough to know what projects are created and funded,” he said. “The detailed cost of the project should be transparent to ensure efficient use of taxpayers’ money. There has to be proper check and balance in every project spending.”

The chamber praised President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s veto of ₱92.5 billion in unprogrammed funds, calling it “decisive” for fiscal discipline.

Ferrer identified five areas where the budget could deliver the most impact: infrastructure, education and workforce skills, trade competitiveness, economic stability, and food, water, and energy security.

“Implemented with integrity and in close consultation with the private sector, the 2026 GAA can be a transformative tool for enhancing Philippine competitiveness,” Ferrer said.

“We look forward to deepening our collaboration to ensure public spending effectively empowers MSMEs, creates quality jobs, and catalyzes long-term, inclusive growth.”

He urged institutionalized consultations and fiduciary safeguards to protect public trust and strengthen investor confidence.
