PCG HITS BARZAGA’S ‘MISLEADING’ VIDEO, DEFENDS DUTY IN WEST PH SEA

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has warned against a video posted by Cavite 4th District Representative Kiko Barzaga, saying it contains “misleading and damaging statements” that undermine the organization’s integrity and professionalism.

According to PCG West Philippine Sea Spokesperson Commodore Jay Tarriela, Barzaga’s claims that the PCG’s operations in the West Philippine Sea are useless and could trigger “World War III” are both false and dangerous.

Tarriela stressed that the Coast Guard’s actions are part of its mandate to protect the nation’s sovereignty, safeguard Filipino fishermen, and secure the country’s waters — calling it an act of patriotism, not provocation.

He also condemned Barzaga’s accusations that the PCG is corrupt and should be abolished, describing them as “irresponsible and insulting.”

Tarriela reiterated that the PCG is a civilian maritime organization, not a military force, and emphasized that the institution will continue to perform its duties with integrity and remain apolitical despite efforts to discredit it.
