PCO TO LAUNCH PLATFORM FOR REPORTING FAKE NEWS ONLINE

The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) is preparing to introduce an online platform that will allow the public to directly report “fake news” circulating across social media, as part of the government’s intensified efforts to combat disinformation.

Communications Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the initiative aims to give citizens a formal channel to flag misleading or false content.

The move follows recent complaints filed by the agency before the Department of Justice against individuals accused of spreading fabricated information.

“Gagawa ang PCO ng isang website o isang platform kung saan ninyo isusumbong lahat ng fake news na nagkakalat at iyan ay hindi namin tutulungan at lahat iyan ay dapat na sampahan ng kaso. Inuulit natin, fake news,” Castro emphasized during a press briefing.

Earlier, Acting Communications Secretary Dave Gomez noted a rise in false narratives circulating online, including claims regarding the health of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., which he said may be intended to destabilize the administration.

According to Gomez, the PCO’s Anti-Fake News Desk has detected what appears to be a coordinated surge in disinformation across various social media platforms.

He added that the office is actively monitoring and gathering posts, comments, and other materials as part of its evidence collection for potential criminal complaints expected to be filed in the coming week.

The PCO has yet to announce the official launch date of the reporting platform.
