Team Philippines concluded its campaign at the 2025 Southeast Asian Games in Thailand with a total of 277 medals, finishing sixth in the overall medal tally.
The delegation won 50 golds, 73 silvers, and 154 bronzes after competing in the biennial multi-sport event from December 9 to 20.
The country’s performance was slightly lower than its fifth-place finish at the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia, where it earned 58 gold medals.
“Very successful para sa amin. We broke many records, we defended, we beat their games ‘yun ang importante doon,” Philippine Olympic Committee President Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino said.
Tolentino noted that the team succeeded “in spite of an uphill battle,” referring to eligibility restrictions set by host Thailand.
“Masakit man sabihin…Brutal ‘yong SEA Games…Pero di kinaya ng iba, Pilipino pa rin ang nanaig,” he added.
Philippine Sports Commission chairperson John Patrick Gregorio emphasized the SEA Games as a key step in preparing athletes for the Olympics.
“‘Yang bronze medals, ‘yan ang grassroots natin,” Gregorio said. “Mag-iimprove nang mag-iimprove ‘yan because we gave them an opportunity to participate in the Southeast Asian Games in Bangkok. Very happy ako.”
Among the gold medal highlights were EJ Obiena in men’s pole vault, Alex Eala in women’s tennis, Gilas Pilipinas Men and Women in 5×5 basketball, and a historic performance by the Filipinas in women’s football.
Victories were also noted in beach volleyball, softball, and baseball.
Swimmer Kayla Sanchez emerged as the most bemedaled Filipino athlete, winning three golds and five silvers.
