The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) announced that 26.75 million Filipinos are registered under its Yaman ng Kalusugan Program (YAKAP) as of January 2026, in line with the observance of National Health Insurance Program (NHIP) Month.
YAKAP grants members access to medical consultations, selected laboratory services, and essential medicines through accredited primary care facilities.
The program emphasizes regular health monitoring, early disease detection, and preventive care to help avoid unnecessary hospitalizations.
PhilHealth recorded 40.01 million YAKAP clinic selections in 2025 and 21.72 million in 2026, indicating increasing participation among members.
PhilHealth President and CEO Dr. Edwin M. Mercado said the agency is intensifying primary care efforts during NHIP Month to ensure families receive timely and comprehensive health services.
Observed under Presidential Proclamation No. 1400, NHIP Month highlights PhilHealth’s mandate to promote social solidarity and financial risk protection.
With the implementation of the Universal Health Care Law, the agency now functions not only as a hospital-based funder but also as a strategic purchaser of health services across the continuum of care.
