PHOTOJOURNALIST DIES WHILE COVERING NAZARENO FEAST

A photojournalist died after collapsing while covering this year’s Feast of Jesus Nazareno early Friday morning, the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) said.

The victim was identified as Itoh Son, 51, a photographer for the tabloid Saksi.

Colleagues said Son suffered a heart attack near the Quirino Grandstand while documenting the annual religious event.

He was rushed to the Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival. Witnesses said Son suddenly collapsed and experienced convulsions while on duty.

Colleagues added that he had been battling flu symptoms for several days but continued working, closely covering pre-Traslacion activities, including the traditional “pahalik” rites.

Son’s wake will be held at Sto. Domingo Church starting January 10, according to his family.
