PNP ASSURES CONTINUOUS OPERATIONS AMID FOUR-DAY WORKWEEK

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has assured the public that law enforcement operations will remain uninterrupted even as some government offices prepare to implement a four-day workweek.

PNP chief Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. emphasized that the police force’s mandate to maintain peace and order operates around the clock and will not be affected by changes in government schedules.

“There is no pause or stop button in our job as officers of law and order. Your Philippine National Police will always be present and will always be ready to respond when it involves the safety and peace of mind of everybody,” Nartatez said.

The assurance followed President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s announcement of a four-day workweek scheme for certain government offices, aimed at conserving energy and reducing fuel consumption amid rising global oil prices linked to Middle East tensions.

Police Operations Unaffected
The PNP clarified that uniformed services such as the police are not covered by the new arrangement, as their responsibilities require continuous operations. Nartatez noted that established systems are already in place to ensure uninterrupted services, while energy-saving measures are being implemented across PNP units nationwide.

Commanders Directed to Review Deployment
To sustain operational readiness, Nartatez instructed police commanders to reassess duty rotations and manpower deployment in their respective areas. The directive aims to maintain strong police visibility in communities and ensure rapid response capability at all times.

He also expressed appreciation for police personnel who will continue working under the regular schedule despite not being covered by the four-day workweek policy.

The PNP’s assurance underscores its commitment to public safety and stability amid government efforts to adapt work arrangements to global energy challenges.
