PNP CLARIFIES SCOPE OF ANTI-EPAL SIGNAGE BAN

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Sunday clarified that its directive banning politically branded signages applies only within PNP-owned properties and facilities nationwide.

PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the order covers materials displayed inside police stations, camps, offices, and other PNP premises, following the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Memorandum Circular No. 2026-006 and a PNP memorandum dated February 2.

“The PNP clarifies that its directive on the prohibition and removal of politically branded signages refers specifically to materials displayed within PNP properties and premises, including police stations, camps, offices, and other PNP facilities nationwide,” Nartatez said.

The directive instructs all PNP units to remove signages, tarpaulins, posters, and similar materials featuring the names, images, initials, color motifs, slogans, or symbols of public officials linked to government-funded projects.

Nartatez stressed that the policy is meant to uphold political neutrality and professionalism within the police force.

“Let me be clear: this is not optional. If you are using government property to highlight a personality, you are violating the principle that public office is a public trust. Remove it immediately. No excuses,” he said.

He ordered all units to immediately inspect their premises and comply with the directive.

The move aligns with the DILG’s earlier call for local government offices nationwide to enforce the anti-epal policy by removing names and likenesses of public officials from government-funded projects and properties.
