The Philippine National Police (PNP) said Thursday that it is preparing for an estimated 300,000 participants expected to join the second Trillion Peso Movement rally against corruption at the EDSA People Power Monument on November 30.
PNP spokesperson PBGen Randulf Tuano said police are monitoring 23 key areas across Metro Manila, including the People Power Monument, EDSA Shrine, Quirino Grandstand, and various freedom parks. The NCRPO will be on full alert beginning Friday, November 28.
Tuano noted that only the Trillion Peso Movement has secured a rally permit for November 30, valid from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Manila Police District said it will enforce maximum tolerance, but MPD spokesperson Police Major Philipp Ines reminded attendees of clear boundaries.
“Gusto po nating ipaalala sa ating mga kababayan na meron po itong limitasyon. Kung makakakita na po tayo ng hayagang pananakit, paninira at paglabag sa batas, eh wala po tayong magagawa kundi ipatupad po natin ang batas,” he said in a television interview.
Trillion Peso Movement spokesman Howard Calleja earlier clarified that the rally will denounce corruption but will not demand the resignation of top government leaders.
