PNP REPORTS GENERALLY PEACEFUL HOLY WEEK OBSERVANCE

The Philippine National Police (PNP) declared that the nationwide observance of Holy Week in 2026 was generally peaceful, with no major incidents recorded.

Data from the PNP showed a 23% drop in focus crimes, from 1,574 cases in 2025 to 1,207 this year. Specific declines included murder (165 to 160), homicide (65 to 49), robbery (157 to 153), theft (508 to 443), rape (404 to 139), carnapping of motor vehicles (13 to 6), and carnapping of motorcycles (10 to 4).

Road accidents also decreased from 9,388 to 8,259, while drowning incidents fell from 143 to 84, though higher compared to the week before Holy Week. Fire incidents, however, rose significantly from 82 to 170.

Overall, total incidents nationwide dropped by 13%, from 11,187 in 2025 to 9,720 in 2026.

PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. credited the positive outcome to the dedication of police personnel and the support of partner agencies.

“Maraming salamat sa inyong lahat. Kayo ang naging susi sa mas ligtas na paggunita ng Semana Santa ng ating mga kababayan,” Nartatez said.
