PNP URGES FUGITIVES TO SURRENDER LIKE REVILLA

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has called on fugitives and high-profile suspects to submit to authorities, citing the example of former Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr., who voluntarily surrendered after the Sandiganbayan issued a warrant of arrest against him in connection with the flood control scandal.

Acting PNP chief Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. confirmed that Revilla yielded on Monday night, shortly after the antigraft court ordered his arrest for graft and malversation over a ₱92.8 million flood control project in Pandi, Bulacan, which allegedly never existed.

“The (PNP) has been accommodating to all those who respect the rule of law and the legal process, but is tough against those who defy and disrespect them,” Nartatez said.

“We encourage the other co-accused and all the fugitives to surrender and face the charges against them. Surrender is always a good choice but in case they choose to hide, then we will find them,” he added.

Revilla surrendered at Camp Crame in Quezon City, accompanied by his family and legal counsel. The PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) immediately served the warrant and formally informed him of his rights.

“The warrant was duly implemented, and the former senator was formally informed of the nature of his arrest and his constitutional rights,” Nartatez said.

Revilla is set to be presented before the Sandiganbayan, which will decide on his detention during trial.

Meanwhile, police operations continue against his co-accused, particularly those still at large, as authorities move to enforce all related arrest warrants.
