The Philippine National Police (PNP) has warned station commanders and chiefs of police, particularly in urban areas, that they risk losing their posts if they fail to clear roads and sidewalks of illegal vendors.
This comes as the agency reaffirmed its support for the government’s zero-obstruction policy.
PNP chief Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said directives have already been issued to ensure thorough road-clearing operations.
He emphasized that unauthorized stalls and other obstructions contribute to traffic congestion and pose safety risks to pedestrians. The initiative aims to improve traffic flow and restore sidewalks for public use.
PNP spokesperson Randulf Tuaño added that police commanders have been instructed to engage vendors in dialogue as part of efforts to reclaim public spaces.
He underscored that a “one-strike policy” will be implemented, meaning non-compliance with the directive could lead to immediate consequences for concerned officials.
The order was issued following inspections by Nartatez in key transport hubs in Metro Manila.
He stressed that local police units are expected to act promptly, with strict enforcement measures in place to ensure roads remain clear of obstructions.
