PNP WARNS VS ONLINE INVESTMENT SCAMS AFTER LAGUNA ARRESTS

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has renewed its warning against online investment scams following the arrest of a group allegedly operating an illegal scheme in Santa Rosa City, Laguna.

Authorities said the suspected leader and 14 others were apprehended in an entrapment operation carried out by the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group in coordination with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Investigators alleged that the group lured victims by promising high returns in exchange for membership fees in an unregistered online investment program.

Despite a decline in reported cases, police emphasized that the threat persists. Data showed incidents dropped from 634 in 2024 to 311 in 2025, with 74 cases recorded from January to March 2026.

The PNP warned that scammers continue to evolve their tactics to deceive the public, making vigilance crucial.

Authorities urged the public to exercise caution, verify the legitimacy of investment opportunities, and immediately report any suspicious activities to proper authorities.
