In his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) delivered on July 28, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. issued a sharp rebuke against public officials allegedly involved in corruption, particularly in the implementation of government infrastructure projects.
Speaking before members of Congress at the Batasang Pambansa, the President criticized those who, according to him, conspire to misuse public funds through questionable projects—especially those related to flood control.
“Sa mga nakikipagsabwatan upang kunin ang pondo ng bayan at nakawin ang kinabukasan ng ating mga mamamamayan, mahiya naman kayo,” said President Marcos Jr., drawing loud applause from the chamber.
The President’s remarks came amid growing public frustration over the apparent inefficiency of some government flood mitigation projects. He cited recent tropical storms—Crising, Dante, and Emong—as well as the intensified southwest monsoon (Habagat) last week, saying the effects of these disasters were not mitigated despite the billions spent on flood control.
President Marcos called for a thorough investigation into these projects, many of which were initially proposed or endorsed by Senator Bam Aquino.
While the President did not name specific officials, his firm language signaled an intensified stance against corruption within the bureaucracy.
The administration has pledged to review and audit all major infrastructure programs to ensure accountability and proper use of public funds.
