The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has stopped printing physical cards for the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) or National ID due to technical issues.
“Wala po ngayong ongoing na printing of the cards,” PSA Social Protection Use Cases Division Chief Ma. Fides Wilma Marquez told the Senate Committee on Social Justice, Welfare and Rural Development on January 28.
Marquez said it remains uncertain when printing will resume, but assured that registration for the National ID continues. So far, around 90 million Filipinos have registered and been issued their PhilSys number.
She emphasized that the PhilSys number alone is sufficient proof of identity since it has undergone biometric verification.
For those without physical cards, Marquez noted that a digital version of the National ID can be downloaded through the eGovPH app.
