The Presidential Security Command (PSC) disclosed during a confirmation hearing that no security personnel have been assigned to Senator Imee Marcos, sister of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr..
Appearing before the Commission on Appointments, PSC commander Rear Admiral Andro Val Abayon confirmed that while the unit is mandated to secure members of the First Family — including the President’s siblings — only Irene Marcos-Araneta currently has a PSC security team.
Abayon said that upon assuming his post three months ago, he conducted a review of the PSC’s security deployment and found that no personnel had been detailed to Imee Marcos.
“And when I checked all the personnel assigned, I noticed that there was no personnel assigned to (Imee),” he told Lacson.
When asked by Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo Lacson how he intends to address the matter, Abayon said:
“It is mandated for us to protect the siblings, and I will talk to the good senator for the preparation of her security.”
He assured lawmakers that security arrangements would be prepared in accordance with their mandate.
During the hearing, Senator Jinggoy Estrada asked how Abayon would respond if the President declined to provide security to his sister. The PSC chief replied:
“I’ll cross the bridge when I get there,”
prompting laughter from those present, including Imee Marcos’ son, Borgy Manotoc.
Imee Marcos, who attended the hearing as a member of the CA, did not issue a statement on the issue.
The disclosure comes amid reports of strained relations within the Marcos family following political tensions linked to Vice President Sara Duterte.
