PULSE ASIA: MARCOS FACES DISTRUST, DUTERTE HOLDS STRONG TRUST

A majority of Filipinos expressed distrust over the performance of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., while Vice President Sara Duterte continues to post high trust and approval ratings, according to a Pulse Asia survey released Tuesday.

In a media release, Pulse Asia said that “the Vice-President continues to enjoy small majority approval and trust ratings in December 2025 (56% and 54%, respectively) while the plurality sentiments toward the President are disapproval for his quarterly performance and distrust in him (48% and 47%, respectively).”

The poll showed that public sentiment toward the country’s two highest-ranking elected officials remained largely unchanged between September and December 2025. Nearly half of Filipino adults (48%) were dissatisfied with Marcos’ performance in the previous quarter, while 34% expressed appreciation. Duterte, meanwhile, received a positive performance rating from 56% of respondents, with 24% disapproving.

Pulse Asia noted similar levels of indecision for both leaders nationwide, at 18% for Marcos and 20% for Duterte.

Geographically, Marcos recorded majority approval only in the rest of Luzon (51%), while disapproval dominated in Metro Manila (53%), the Visayas (62%), Mindanao (85%), and among Class E respondents (60%). Duterte, on the other hand, garnered strong approval from most Visayans (68%), Mindanawons (95%), and respondents from Class D (57%) and Class E (61%).

The survey was conducted through face-to-face interviews from December 12 to 15, 2025, involving 1,200 adult respondents nationwide. It has a ±2.8% margin of error at the 95% confidence level.
