RIDON SAYS GOMEZ’S ASSAULT ON PFA PRESIDENT MAY WARRANT ETHICS COMPLAINT

Bicol Saro Partylist Representative Terry Ridon on Friday said Leyte 4th District Representative Richard Gomez’s act of hitting the president of the Philippine Fencing Association (PFA) undermined the reputation and dignity of the House of Representatives.

In an interview, Ridon said the assault during the 2025 Southeast Asian Games in Thailand could be grounds for an ethics complaint.

“I think so. Parang it impinges into the reputation and the dignity of the House, pag ginagawa (ito) ng House members. Hindi ginagawa dapat ng House Members yun. Yung nambabatok ng matanda or nambabatok ng kung sinumang tao,” he said.

Ridon added that private individuals, including the PFA president, could file a complaint.

“Ang sabi naman nila, walang aregluhan dito, apologies, from either party. So I’m quite certain, yung pong PFA president will actually file an ethics complaint against Congressman Gomez,” he said.

On possible sanctions, Ridon noted the decision would rest with the House leadership.

“Bahala siyempre yung komite at saka yung plenaryo. Mag-desisyon kung ano yung ginagawa doon,” he said.

Earlier this month, the House suspended Cavite 4th District Representative Kiko Barzaga for 60 days over social media posts deemed to affect the dignity and integrity of the House.
