ROBREDO URGES ‘WIDER PERSPECTIVE’ AND STRATEGY FOR OPPOSITION TO WIN IN 2028

Former Vice President and Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo believes that the key to the opposition’s victory in the 2028 national elections lies in strategic thinking and a broader perspective, not emotion-driven campaigning.

In a recent statement, Robredo emphasized the need for her allies and supporters to move away from emotional responses and focus instead on approaches that will yield electoral success.

“Marami pa rin kasi tayong mga kasama na mas puso—mas puso yung pinapairal, mas emotion. Ako, kung gusto natin manalo, ‘di pwede yun eh. Kung gusto nating manalo, kailangan mas malayo yung pagtingin at mas malawak,” said Robredo, reflecting on the opposition’s losses in the 2019 and 2022 elections.

Robredo cited the 2025 Senate victories of Senators Bam Aquino and Kiko Pangilinan, as well as the success of the Akbayan and Mamamayang Liberal party-lists in the House of Representatives as proof that the opposition has what it takes to win—if done strategically.

“Sa atin lang, if we fight right, may chance tayo… Gaya ng ginawa nila Senator Bam, kung gusto natin manalo, kailangan mas lawakan natin yung space natin para sa dissenting views,” she added.

A STRATEGY BUILT ON ROLES AND RESPECT

Robredo also shared her vision for an ideal campaign strategy for 2028: one that respects the different roles of individuals in the movement—whether it be attacking, mediating, or organizing—while working together as a team.

“Sa akin, may kanya-kanya tayong roles na ipe-play eh, meron tumitira, merong nagdi-diplomasya, merong nagii-strategize—pero nagwo-work tayo together,” she said.

“Yung nakita ko kasi sa iba nating kasama, ‘di ganon eh, kung ako tumitira, gusto ko lahat din tumitira, hindi naiintindihan yung laro. So sa akin lang kung ganun lagi, mahihirapan tayo.”

“Mahihirapan tayo na wala tayong espasyo para dun sa mga hindi eksakto sa paniniwala natin,” Robredo added.

Sources say Robredo, alongside Senators Bam Aquino and Kiko Pangilinan, are being considered by the Liberal Party-led opposition as possible standard-bearers for the 2028 presidential race.

However, discussions of a potential alliance with Senator Raffy Tulfo’s camp are not off the table.

Should she run, this would be Robredo’s second attempt at the presidency, following her defeat to President Bongbong Marcos in 2022.
