The camp of former House Speaker and Leyte 1st District Representative Martin Romualdez on Monday rejected allegations linking him to the purchase of a property in an upscale Makati subdivision, insisting there is no evidence to support the claims.
Lawyer Ade Fajardo, Romualdez’s counsel and spokesperson, dismissed the accusations raised during the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing as baseless.
“The claims come solely from the staff of an evicted tenant, unsupported by any document, while Martin Romualdez’s name appears in no deed, contract, or payment record related to the property,” Fajardo said.
Two witnesses had testified that they met government contractor Curlee Discaya, who allegedly told them the house was bought by Romualdez.
But Fajardo pointed out that Discaya himself testified under oath that he had never entered South Forbes Park, making it impossible for him to have issued instructions regarding the property.
“There is no evidence— only hearsay and possibly perjured statements— and therefore nothing to answer,” Fajardo added.
The denial comes amid continuing Senate hearings into alleged anomalies tied to flood control projects, where high-profile figures have been dragged into property-related claims.
