ROMUALDEZ CAMP READY TO FACE OMBUDSMAN COMPLAINT OVER FLOOD CONTROL CONTROVERSY

The camp of former House Speaker and Leyte 1st District Representative Martin Romualdez said he is prepared to face any complaint that may be filed by the Office of the Ombudsman in connection with the ongoing flood control controversy.

This came after Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla earlier confirmed that his office is seriously preparing a case against Romualdez and Senator Chiz Escudero.

In response, Atty. Ade Fajardo, Romualdez’s legal counsel and spokesperson, emphasized that no formal case has been filed so far.

“We have taken note of news reports regarding the alleged preparation of a complaint involving Rep. Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez. To be clear, this refers only to a reported preparation of a complaint—there is no filed case, no finding of probable cause, and no determination of liability at this time,” Fajardo said.

He added that Romualdez’s camp respects the legal process and is ready to cooperate should formal proceedings begin.

“We respect the processes of the Office of the Ombudsman and will fully cooperate if and when a formal proceeding is initiated. We trust that the Ombudsman will fully adhere to the circular that he instituted and signed as then Secretary of the Department of Justice, that DOJ prosecutors should only pursue cases with ‘reasonable certainty of conviction’,” he said.

Earlier on Monday, Remulla said his office is in the final stages of preparing the necessary elements to build a case against Romualdez and Escudero over alleged irregularities in flood control projects.

Despite this, Fajardo maintained that there is still no evidence linking Romualdez to any substandard or questionable flood control projects.

“We remain confident that these matters will be resolved based on evidence and due process—not politics or speculation,” he added.
