Former House Speaker and Leyte 1st District Representative Ferdinand Martin Romualdez formally appeared before the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) following the agency’s invitation regarding its ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in flood control projects.
In a media interview on Tuesday, October 14, Romualdez said he is ready to cooperate fully with the commission to help expedite the fact-finding process.
“I will be here to help in any way to speed up the resolution of the fact-finding investigation of the ICI,” Romualdez stated.
The former Speaker maintained his innocence amid the allegations, emphasizing that only facts — not politics — should determine the outcome.
“It is evidence — not political noise or unfounded accusations — that will reveal what really happened,” he said.
“My presence here reflects my commitment to state the truth and not allow politics to prevail,” Romualdez added.
Earlier, the ICI requested the Department of Justice (DOJ) to issue an Immigration Lookout Bulletin Order (ILBO) against lawmakers and government officials, including Romualdez, in connection with the ongoing probe.
It may be recalled that Romualdez was among those named by contractor Curlee Discaya, who alleged that several legislators received a percentage from the funds allocated to questionable flood control projects.
