Former House Speaker and Leyte 1st District Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez fired back at former Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero’s privilege speech earlier today in the Senate, where Escudero alleged that Romualdez was behind the anomalous flood control projects.
In a statement, Romualdez described Escudero’s speech as nothing more than a script taken from troll pages and social media posts, branding it as baseless.
“I listened to the privilege speech of Sen. Chiz Escudero. With respect, what we heard was not an exposé but a DDS (Digong Duterte Supporters) script — the same recycled accusations we have on troll pages and social media posts. Walang bago at wala rin katotohanan,” Romualdez said.
According to Romualdez, Escudero’s speech was not about accountability but about political ambition, suggesting it was meant to align himself with Vice President Sara Duterte ahead of the 2028 elections.
“It was a performance designed to profess loyalty and service to Vice President Sara Duterte, and to position himself as her ally for 2028. Ang tunay na pinagsisilbihan ay hindi ang katotohanan, kundi ang sariling interes at plano sa politika,” Romualdez added.
Romualdez stressed that he is ready to face any investigation to prove he has not stolen “a single centavo” from public funds.
