ROMUALDEZ SAYS HE’S READY TO FACE ICI OVER FLOOD CONTROL PROJECT PROBE

Leyte 1st District Representative and former House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez has expressed his readiness to appear before the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) in connection with its investigation into alleged irregularities involving flood control projects.

In a statement released by his office on Wednesday, Romualdez confirmed receiving an official invitation from the ICI and emphasized his willingness to cooperate with the probe.

“The Office of Rep. Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez confirms receipt today of the invitation from the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI). Rep. Romualdez welcomes the opportunity to cooperate with the Commission and fully supports its objective of promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance,” the statement read.

It added: “In this regard, Rep. Romualdez is prepared to appear before the Commission.”

Earlier, the ICI released a copy of its invitation for Romualdez to testify in its upcoming hearing to help clarify alleged budget insertions tied to questionable flood control projects that reportedly occurred during his tenure as House Speaker.

In a letter dated October 8, ICI Chairperson retired Justice Andres Reyes Jr. said that the lawmaker is expected to appear before the Commission on October 14.

“We respectfully request that you bring with you, upon your appearance before the said Commission, any documents that you deem relevant in support of your said appearance,” Reyes stated in the letter.
