SANDIGANBAYAN DENIES REVILLA TRANSFER REQUEST

The Sandiganbayan has denied former Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr.’s plea to be transferred from the Quezon City jail to the Philippine National Police Custodial Center at Camp Crame.

In a ruling issued Thursday, the antigraft court’s Third Division also junked Revilla’s motions to quash the information and to remand the case to the Office of the Ombudsman for reinvestigation, clearing the way for the trial to proceed.

With the dismissal of his petition, Revilla will remain detained at the New Quezon City Jail Male Dormitory, where his co-accused are also being held.

The court ruled that Revilla failed to substantiate claims that his life was in danger or that he was being unfairly treated while in detention.

“There is no basis for the Revilla’s claims of harm, harassment, and threat to his person that would warrant a transfer of his custody to any PNP custodial facility,” the resolution read.

The case stemmed from allegations by former Public Works Engineer Henry Alcantara, who accused Revilla of receiving kickbacks from a ₱92.8-million “ghost” flood control project in Pandi, Bulacan.

Revilla had earlier spent four years in detention after being charged in the ₱10-billion pork barrel scam, a case in which he was eventually acquitted.
